Abby joined The Democracy Collaborative’s Healthcare Engagement team in April of 2019. Abby will provide strategic support for the Healthcare Anchor Network – a network representing 45 hospital systems across the United States who are working to make their hiring, purchasing and investing decisions more inclusive, local and community-driven.
Prior to working at TDC, Abby focused her career around developing sustainable and equitable food systems. She opened and managed the Washington DC branch of a mission-driven food hub called The Common Market, expanding distribution reach southward into Maryland, DC and Virginia from Philadelphia. During this time, she developed relationships with institutions, businesses and community organizations in the DC region, opening $1 million in new markets for sustainable, local producers. Before that, Abby worked as a Communications Coordinator in the Outreach office of USDA’s Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program, where she managed development of written and digital resources for farmers and educators interested in learning about topics related to sustainable agriculture.
She holds two Masters of the Arts degrees, one in International Affairs from American University and the other in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development from the UN-mandated University for Peace. She is also a Clemson University graduate.
