Advancing the Anchor Mission of Healthcare

Inaugural convening brought together health system leaders dedicated to reimagining role of healthcare

This past December, the Democracy Collaborative joined eight sponsor health systems and organizations to host Advancing the Anchor Mission of Healthcare, a two day convening of over 80 health system leaders and key stakeholders, representing 40 health systems from across the U.S. The two day event on December 12th & 13th, hosted at Kaiser Permanente's Center for Total Health in Washington, DC, was focused on advancing a new role for healthcare where hospitals and health systems are leaders in creating the conditions for truly thriving communities—where well-being is a right for all, especially those who have been historically marginalized. The day was filled with invigorating discussion facilitated by Co-Creative Consulting. Participants shared their experiences with strategies such as inclusive, local sourcing and hiring, and place-based investment, and small groups created action plans for how to scale this work.

Later in the year, The Democracy Collaborative will join the sponsor health systems in releasing a summary report about the convening. In the meantime, we are happy to share the beautiful visual record of the event created in the room by our photographer, Lucy Yarnell, and graphic recorder, Emily Carlton:
