Focused on creating more stable and sustainable communities, Chhaya Community Development Corporation seeks to accomplish this goal by increasing civic participation in the community and by addressing housing and community development needs of South Asian Americans and other new immigrants. In 2009, Chhaya nearly doubled its full time staff to seven and became a certified Housing Counseling Agency, launching a foreclosure prevention program that had reached more than 4,000 people as of 2013. Its work also includes financial capacity building, sustainable homeownership, energy efficiency, women’s financial empowerment, workforce development, civic engagement, and broader community building, research and advocacy around community needs.
