Working in an area with one of the highest crime rates, highest unemployment rates, the highest drop-out rate, and the highest foreclosure rate in the city, Devington Community Development Corporation (DCDC) aims to help vulnerable populations attain economic justice, affordable green housing and health care, safe neighborhoods, excellent education, and jobs. Its Green Jobs Workforce Development Program prepares area residents for construction careers, and has a hands-on training component through which supervised trainees provide free home repair services to community members. With a strong commitment to helping formerly incarcerated people, DCDC has trained more than 80 ex-felons, and more than 60 have obtained full-time jobs. DCDC also has an urban farm, which has provided training for more than 200 area youth.
