Great Streets is the District’s multi-agency commercial revitalization initiative focused on creating thriving, inviting neighborhood centers. To do so, the initiative awards grants of up to $85,000 to small business owners to improve their place of business. To receive an award, applicants must demonstrate how their project will increase daytime foot traffic and their corridor’s vibrancy, create/retain jobs for District residents, and include District-based businesses in the capital improvements project. In the latest round of grants, which were awarded in 2014, 39 small businesses received a total of $1.3 million.
