Since 1973, Mission Economic Development Association (MEDA) has worked to improve economic and social conditions for San Francisco’s low and moderate income residents, primarily within the Latino community. Through MEDA’s one-on-one free business technical assistance, consultations for micro entrepreneurs, and counseling for homeowners, it provides asset development services for over 5,000 families a year. In 2010, MEDA converted a former furniture store into Plaza Adelante, considered the first community center explicitly focused on asset development. In January 2015, MEDA will launch a new $1,000-$50,000 microloan program designed to provide clients with easier access to capital.
