Ted Howard, Executive Director of The Democracy Collaborative (host of Community-Wealth.org), will be speaking at PolicyLink‘s fourth national conference about the topic on every American’s mind: jobs.  PolicyLink conferences occur only once every three years and attract well over a thousand participants.  This year’s conference, which is called Equity Summit 2011, will take place from November 8-11 in Detroit. The Equity Summit 2011 which has the theme of “Healthy Communities, Strong Regions, A Prosperous America,” will cover a wide range of issues that community wealth builders are working on today, including job creation, education, housing, food and transportation. The Summit will bring together advocates, scholars, organizers, foundation leaders, community activists, and policymakers to engage in meaningful discussions to bring about equitable development and build community wealth.

Ted Howard will be speaking on the Delivering on the Promise of Growth and Inclusion: New Local Job Development Strategies panel with Medrick Addison, Plant Manager at the Evergreen Cooperative Laundry, Mihailo Temali, President and CEO of the Neighborhood Development Center, and Benny Torres, President and CEO of the Community Development Technologies Center. They will cover the topic of jobs at the local level, with a focus on low-income communities. Discussions will revolve around new approaches to job-creating entrepreneurship development, increasing leverage for community development efforts made by anchor institutions, and the latest innovations in hiring locally to build and benefit from a stronger community.
