Founded in 1875, Prudential—a Newark-headquartered financial services company— formalized its impact investing program in 1976. Focused on supporting social purpose enterprises, financial intermediaries, and real assets that can improve the lives of both individuals and communities, the program aims to identify market inefficiencies and craft investment solutions that generate a return while driving social change. To date, Prudential has invested nearly $2 billion in impact investments, $300 million of which has been invested in Newark. In 2014, the company committed to establishing a $1 billion impact investment portfolio by 2020.
