Southern Mutual Help Association

Founded in 1969 as a community development corporation with the goal of improving the economic welfare of Louisiana cane workers, SMHA has expanded over the years while continuing its original advocacy work. The organization has created both rural housing and community development lending subsidiary organizations and has developed partnerships with national organizations, such as Rural LISC.
