As part of the Rethinking Communities’ Initiative, the Roosevelt Institute|Campus Network launched The Anchor Institution Challenge, a nationwide project designed to help students understand their university's impact on surrounding communities. Using anchor institution assessment metrics developed in The Democracy Collaborative’s Anchor Dashboard, students are encouraged to measure their university’s commitment to community building and education; inclusive economic development; and health, safety, and the environment.

This short video invites students to participate in the challenge and develop a report card on their university. By contributing to a growing body of research on universities’ local impact, students can empower their communities and universities to collaboratively develop plans to support positive and sustainable local change.
