Community Development Academy in St. Louis and Coop Academy in the Bronx

The University of Missouri Extension is offering two intensive five day courses from September 19th through the 23rd at their Community Development Academy, one focusing on “Building Communities from the Grassroots” and the other on “Creating Capacity for Dynamic Communities.” The program is designed around providing a useful toolkit for practitioners already engaged in community wealth building, as well as undergraduate and graduate students interested in developing practical knowledge and skills in the field.  A limited number of scholarships are available.

Another exciting opportunity (for those in NYC) is being offered by the Bronx’s Green Worker Cooperatives.  Their 16-week Coop Academy is an intensive education and consultation incubator program for small teams looking to start new worker-owned green businesses, and provides high-quality education in small business fundamentals as well as instruction and assistance specifically aimed at helping the new businesses make the connections between environmental sustainability and economic justice.
