The Urban Strategies Council aims to eliminate persistent poverty and transform low-income neighborhoods into vibrant, healthy communities. To do so, The Council works with community stakeholders to identify and build understanding of issues impacting urban communities, develop agendas for addressing those issues, and build alliances across diverse interests to achieve collective action. One current project convened by the Council, the Community Wealth and Ownership (CWO) Initiative, focuses on developing a scalable infrastructure to build community-serving businesses and sustain significant and lasting wealth in communities through worker-ownership and quality employment.
