We are pleased to announce a new intern position at the Democracy Collaborative that will focus on the C-W.org newsletter, adding web content, and social media outreach. For further details, please see the position description below. Remember to submit your applications by March 1st!

Democracy Collaborative, Intern Position

Intern Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with writing Community-Wealth City section of the website. (Examples of this project are here).

  2. Assist with quarterly newsletter draft, including writing content and finding pictures. (Newsletters are sent out by email but archived versions can be found here.)

  3. Update content for the website by writing a bibliography and summaries for all new articles and reports as needed. (Examples of this kind of work can be found here).

  4. Monitor and update social media profiles (@DemocracyCollab on Twitter, Democracy Collaborativeon Facebook), engaging with the larger community wealth building community and building our follower and friend counts.

  5. During the summer, work may include development of new sections of the website.

Expected Qualifications:

  1. An interest in the field of community-based economic development and anchor institutions. (Actual experience not required).
  2. Excellence in writing and communication skills. Specifically, having the ability to convey relevant information concisely and clearly.
  3. A strong understanding of social media platforms.
  4. A willingness to work flexible hours independently with clear deadlines. (Specifically, availability the day before the newsletter is launched for two to three hours to proofread is required).
  5. 10 hours/week commitment, including at least a half-day working out of the Takoma Park office. (The office is a few blocks from the Takoma metro).

Additional hours are possible depending on interest and available work. An agreement to work for a minimum of one year is required. Position can extend beyond one year by mutual agreement.
