Co-op Development Fund

To support the expansion of worker cooperatives throughout the City, the New York City Council created a $1.2 million fund, representing the largest investment a U.S. municipal government has ever made in the model.  The fund’s creation was the result of the education and advocacy efforts of a broad coalition of community groups including the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies, the New York City Network of Worker Cooperatives, the Democracy at Work Institute, and Make the Road New York.  The fund is expected to provide financial and technical assistance to help launch 28 new cooperatives and foster the continued growth of 20 existing cooperatives, supporting the creation of 234 jobs in total.
