Launched in May 2012, Mission Investors Exchange is the culmination of the integration of PRI Makers Network and More for Mission, along with more than 200 Foundations and mission investing organizations that use mission-related investing as a strategy to accomplish their philanthropic goals.  The group offers a variety of tools, workshops, webinars, and a national conference for foundations interested in program related and missions related investing. Open Society Institute-Baltimore

OSI-Baltimore was launched as a five-year initiative, which has since been extended. The foundation directed over $90 million toward targeted grants and technical assistance to achieve lasting change in Baltimore's neighborhoods, schools, prisons, workplaces and government agencies. Baltimore Community Foundation

The Baltimore Community Foundation is the fourth largest grant-maker among Maryland's charitable foundations. In 2006, BCF distributed $26 million to hundreds of nonprofit organizations in the Baltimore region and beyond. With assets of $157 million, BCF comprises more than 600 different charitable funds and has granted over $348 since its inception. Annie E. Casey Foundation, Direct Services Grant Program

The Annie E. Casey Foundation's Baltimore Direct Services Grants Program annually funds a wide range of not-for-profit community-based or community-serving organizations that work directly with disadvantaged children, youth, and families, primarily in Baltimore City. Pearl M. And Julia J. Harmon Foundation

Established in 1981, the Harmon Foundation began offering Program-Related Investment as zero interest loans. The Foundation's original goal was to create a revolving fund of loans that would allow them to continually expand on the size and amount of projects they supported. After 31 years, the foundation has successfully accumulated assets that exceed $43 million. John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation

The MacArthur Foundation has traditionally focused its PRI programs to provide capital for community development financial institutions. Since 1983, it has awarded approximately $350 million in program related investments. In 2003, while continuing this past support, MacArthur launched a new $50 million initiative designed to address the growing shortage of affordable rental housing by providing direct capital support to nonprofit leaders in affordable rental housing preservation. Global Impact Investing Network

The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) is a nonprofit organization that aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of impact investing to tackle social challenges and generate a profit. GIIN’s programmatic strategy focuses on three key areas: Investors’ Council is a group of leading impact investors who broadcast research and best practices. Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS) establish a common framework for measuring impact. Finally, outreach seeks to heighten standards, disseminate research, and increase transparency. George Gund Foundation

This Cleveland-based foundation's first PRI was made in 1984 when $333,000 was lent to support the building of a 183 unit housing development in the Hough neighborhood of Cleveland. Americans for Community Development

Americans for Community Development is a coalition that encourages the use of program related investments through low-profit, limited liability corporations (L3C) to achieve social goals. The group's efforts helped result in a 2008 Vermont law giving legal recognition to such companies. The Vermont law specifies that companies so designated must further the accomplishment of a charitable or educational purpose, and demonstrate that the company would not have been formed but for its relationship to such purposes. Abell Foundation

Founded in 1953, the Abell Foundation aims to enhance the quality of life in Maryland, with a focus on Baltimore City.  With assets of more than $350 million, the foundation not only provides grants to achieve its mission, but also makes direct investments in companies that promote social objectives, create jobs, and are located in, or agree to relocate to, Baltimore City.  The foundation is especially interested in supporting early-stage companies that foster promising technologies.  In 2014, Abell’s assets included $8.9 million of investments in such companies. Swan's Market

This effort involved a $20 million, 135,000 square-foot project that included affordable housing, renovation of an existing market (Swans Market), a neighboring shopping center (Jack London Gateway), and cultural facilities (including a museum). Led by the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation, an Oakland CDC, it also received critical support from the Heron Foundation, which provided two PRI loans for a total of $600,000 to support the project.
