Join Bank On

JoinBankOn.org is a web-based resource for individuals affiliated with or interested in Bank On and other financial access initiatives that focus on connecting those with barriers to banking and increase accesses to the mainstream financial market. Managed by CFED and supported by the National League of Cities and the New America Foundation, the website allows users to locate a local Bank On Program, research for your community, and tools on how to start a Bank On Program.

Capital Good Fund

Capital Good Fund is a nonprofit CDFI that provides equitable financial services to low-income families around the state of Rhode Island. They offer small personal loans and one-on-one financial and health coaching in an effort to create pathways out of poverty. Since 2009, Capital Good Fund has made 950 loans for a total of $925,000 disbursed (and a 92% repayment rate), and graduated over 1,000 families through financial and health coaching. The fund is proud to serve a diverse clientele and welcomes inquiries from Spanish-speakers, undocumented individuals, survivors of domestic violence, and any others who may have difficulty accessing mainstream financial services. 

Mission Economic Development Association

Since 1973, Mission Economic Development Association (MEDA) has worked to improve economic and social conditions for San Francisco’s low and moderate income residents, primarily within the Latino community. Through MEDA’s one-on-one free business technical assistance, consultations for micro entrepreneurs, and counseling for homeowners, it provides asset development services for over 5,000 families a year. In 2010, MEDA converted a former furniture store into Plaza Adelante, considered the first community center explicitly focused on asset development. Urban Solutions

Established in 1992, Urban Solutions aims to strengthen underserved neighborhoods by supporting small businesses, job creation, diversity, and sustainability.  To do so, it offers a range of free business services, including individual consulting, workshops, and leasing assistance. Since its founding, Urban Solutions has served more than 4,900 small business clients and distributed $24.5 million in loans, leading to the creation of 665 jobs. Read more about Urban Solutions...

Individual Development and Empowerment Account Program

Individual Development and Empowerment Account (IDEA) Program is a grant-matching program offered by the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco to help low-income families buy their first home. Through this program, the bank will provide up to $15,000 for each participating household, matching three dollars for every one dollar saved by the homeowner. In 2014, the Bank allocated about $1.6 million in IDEA funds to nine financial institutions to assist eligible homebuyers. Read more about Individual Development and Empowerment Account Program...

The Assets for Independent Act Demonstration Program is the office that manages the federal pilot IDA program, the Assets for Independence Act (AFIA) and maintains information on federal programs that assist low-income families to accumulate assets and rise out of poverty. Asset-Based Community Development Institute

The Asset-Based Community Development Institute (ABCD Institute) provides research, training videos, workshops, publications, and consultation services for those interested in capacity-building community development and neighborhood asset mobilization. The Institute's work is based on the premise that through mobilizing their own assets, neighborhoods can substitute for imports and become more self-sufficient. Institute on Asset and Social Policy (Brandeis University)

Formerly known as the Asset Development Institute, the Institute on Assets & Social Policy aims to promote and advance individual asset-building policy choices that promise to reduce hunger and poverty in the nation by addressing their root causes. Its mission is to broaden and redefine the asset development concept and familiarize the public, media, and policy leaders with the asset development approach. National League of Cities, Institute for Youth, Education and Families, Asset Building Program

The Asset Building Program of the Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute), a special entity within the National League of Cities (NLC), helps municipal leaders take action on a variety of individual asset building strategies, including homeownership counseling and incentives, individual development account programs, and asset protection measures to help families avoid predatory lending and other “wealth-stripping” practices. The IDA Network is comprised of community economic development professionals, IDA VISTA (Volunteers in Service To America) members, account holders, financial institution representatives, federal and state policy makers, legislative staff, social policy researchers, press members, and others who share a commitment to expanding opportunities for low-income families to build financial and human capital. Doorways to Dreams

The Doorways to Dreams (D2D) Fund works to expand access to financial services, especially asset building opportunities, for low-income families by creating, testing and deploying innovative financial products and services. The group's Refunds to Assets program enables low-income tax refund recipients to automatically direct a percentage of their federal tax refund to a savings account, while its Online Individual Development Account program creates a web-based, integrated financial transaction and record keeping system to reduce IDA program overhead costs.
