Community Development Corporation of Utah

Founded in 1991, CDC of Utah assists low-income families achieve homeownership. People with disabilities, those living in substandard housing, those on public assistance who are seeking self-sufficiency, and people in danger of being homeless or institutionalized receive priority attention. Founded in 1977, Coastal Enterprises is known as a leader in rural development with a philosophy that looks to maintain a “triple bottom line” of achieving positive economic, equitable and environmental outcomes. Chicanos por la Causa

A statewide CDC in Arizona, Chicanos por la Causa currently manages over 4,000 units of affordable housing, valued at $110 million, operates three charter schools, owns a housing construction company, owns a 2,000-plus member credit union, and airs a weekly Spanish-language radio program on its activities. Project for Pride in Living

Established in 1972, Project for Pride in Living (PPL) is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering low-income people so that they can become self-reliant.  PPL owns or manages more than 1,100 units of affordable or supportive housing throughout the Twin Cities metro area and operates a pre-school and two high schools. Through its affordable housing, jobs and employment training, youth development, and community support services, the nonprofit serves more than 13,000 people a year.

Neighborhood Development Center

Aiming to help those in historically underserved neighborhoods develop businesses that enrich their economic and social fabric, Neighborhood Development Center (NDC) provides culturally competent, integrated business services in Minneapolis and St. Paul.  To date, it has loaned over $13.7 million to more than 570 businesses, participated in the redevelopment of six formerly blighted properties that now house over 120 small businesses, and trained 4,690 aspiring entrepreneurs, 85 percent of whom are people of color.  Its work is credited with returning $73 million to the Twin Cities economy every year.

Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers

Founded in 1989 when 11 nonprofit developers decided to work more closely together, Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD) is an association of nonprofit community development organizations focused on boosting neighborhood wealth and resources through housing and economic development initiatives.  Through its Open to Business Program, MCCD provides technical assistance to new businesses and small loans to emerging entrepreneurs who cannot access traditional financing. Since 2003, MCCD has loaned over $6.7 million to more than 550 entrepreneurs.

Hope Community

Located just south of downtown Minneapolis and founded in 1977, Hope Community works to revitalize one of the most diverse and economically challenged areas in Minneapolis. The Hope Block, a ten-year development effort, now encompasses 50 affordable rentals, 27 supportive housing units, and community green space.  Grounded by the belief that “buildings alone do not make community; people must build a community,” all of the CDC’s development work involves extensive community engagement.

Family Housing Fund

Founded in 1980, the Family Housing Fund is dedicated to providing financial support for affordable housing for low to medium-income residents in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. To date, FHF investments of $125 million have helped finance 26,400 units of affordable housing and leveraged $1.8 billion for affordable housing from government, private lenders, and contributors. East Side Neighborhood Development Company

Striving to generate wealth and maintain diversity within neighborhoods, East Side Neighborhood Development Company was founded in 1979 in response to disinvestment in the Payne/Phalen Lake community.  In 2015, the CDC rehabbed 40 homes, developed 10 new homes, and completed several capital improvement projects— developments which together brought over $7 million in new housing and economic development to the area.  Committed to racial equity, the CDC also strives to ensure the majority of homes, jobs, and businesses it supports are available to and operated by people of color.

Common Bond Communities

Founded in 1971, Common Bond Communities is the largest nonprofit developer of affordable housing in the Midwest. It owns or manages more than 5,700 affordable rental apartments and townhomes that are home to over 9,000 residents in 50 cities throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. The nonprofit also provides a range of free, on-site services based on residents’ needs, which include health and wellness clinics, youth mentoring, adult education, job readiness and search services, financial literacy education, and financial coaching.

Aeon

Founded as the Central Community Housing Trust in 1986, Aeon provides affordable housing to low-income individuals in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. Serving more than 4,500 people annually, Aeon owns and manages 36 properties and 2,700 units of affordable housing. Read more about Aeon...

St. John Community Development Corporation

St. John Community Development Corporation, Inc. (SJCDC) is a not-for-profit community based organization founded in 1985 by the pastor and a group of concerned and dedicated members from St. John Institutional Missionary Baptist Church in Overtown. It was established to respond to the physical deterioration and social distress of Overtown, Miami-Dade County's poorest community, and to take a lead role in its revitalization.  The CDC currently owns and manages nine residential complexes that include affordable rental units and on-site supportive services. Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida

Founded in 1978 as Miami-Dade Neighborhood Housing Services, Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida provides homeownership services and develops quality, green, and affordable homes in Miami-Dade and Broward County. Miami Beach Community Development Corporation

Founded in 1981, the Miami Beach Community Development Corporation aims to expand opportunities for and enhance the quality of life of Miami Beach’s low-income residents.  To do so, it owns and manages an office building and 14 residential projects, which include 340 units for low-income elderly and disabled residents. Haitian American Community Development Corporation (HACDC)

Founded in 1987, the Haitian American Community Development Corporation (HACDC), formerly known as the Little Haiti Housing Association, aims to provide decent affordable housing, as well as educational and business development programs that foster sustainable economic advancement, in South Florida’s Haitian-American communities.  The CDC acquires and rehabs distressed housing units, which are then sold or rented as affordable units.  Its Homebuyer Education program, which is offered in English and Creole, has helped about 2,650 clients.  HACDC has also assisted more than 300 people purchase their first home by securing nearly $60 million in affordable or subsidized financing.

East Little Havana CDC

The East Little Havana Community Development Corporation (ELHCDC) was incorporated in 1984 and began operations in 1986 to revitalize the East Little Havana neighborhood. To date, the organization has developed over 300 units of affordable housing. The group also is increasingly working to support local business creation, including through its work in Latin Quarter Specialty Center project, a mixed-use development that will include 14,000 square feet of Hispanic-oriented retail space on the ground floor along with 45 moderate-income housing units. Carrfour Supportive Housing

Carrfour Corporation is the non-profit, community based, supportive housing development organization established by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to combat homelessness. Carrfour serves the formerly homeless and those at risk of homelessness, including Miami-Dade's special needs and very low-income populations.  The nonprofit currently oversees over 1,700 units of supportive housing serving more than 3,000 residents across Miami-Dade County. The Works

Formed in 1999 by the United Way Agency, The Works emphasizes housing for low and moderate income families and the elderly and disabled. Their programs include DreamWorks, housing construction for homeownership, Alpha Renaissance Apartments, low-income rentals, EducationWorks, homebuyer education and counseling, RepairWorks, for minor home repair, and Circles of Success Learning Academy, a charter school.
